At the outset, the great majority of smart card/tokens issuers start simply by issuing one type of smart card with a single version of one operating system on the chips and loading a single version of one application. Even with a simple product like this, over time smart card issuers find that their lives become more complicated as new versions of the operating system and application are used and cards/tokens are sourced from different suppliers.

The launch of new products using different card/token types exacerbates the situation. It becomes increasingly difficult to manage the business as what was an homogeneous cardbase becomes heterogeneous. The simple systems used initially are no longer suitable. Aconite’s Affina Enterprise product provides the answer to the question of how to manage complexity.

Affina Enterprise records and retains the details of each card /token issued, including the personalisation data, application type and version, application parameter settings, chip type and version used, etc. This information is available for inquiry and to facilitate re-issue of lost, stolen and damaged cards/tokens and the renewal of expiring cards/tokens. Affina Enterprise can also provide post-issuance management, enabling applications to be updated or deleted or new applications to be added.
