One for all: EMV TwoFour simplifies migration from M/Chip 2 to 4
Paris, CARTES 2007 - EMV TwoFour from the smart card expert Sagem Orga is a new banking product that for the first time enables secure migration from M/Chip 2 to M/Chip 4 without the need to completely renew the card base. Already issued cards can be migrated from M/Chip Lite 2.1 to M/Chip 4 quickly and easily thanks to a switching mechanism. With its new product, Sagem Orga provides substantial assistance to banks and card issuing institutions as they face the challenge of migrating from M/Chip 2 to M/Chip 4.
The cards are updated by means of normal secure channel scripting without the need to reissue them - and without additional costs. This not only protects existing investments, but also enables new cards to be issued before the network and host systems have been updated. Once the back-end systems are ready, the TwoFour feature comes into play, quickly upgrading the card portfolio to make it fully M/Chip 4-compliant - and slashing the time to market. That means that issuing cards is now independent of other project phases.
A wide range of built-in functionalities rounds out the new features, including the SmartyPlus toolbox for application development, various secure authentication methods and data storage services. The customizable application functions offer support for the customer's own value added services as well as the world's major loyalty schemes such as Welcome Realtime XLS and authentication programs like Mastercard's CAP and Visa's DPA.
Sagem Orga is partnering with Aconite Technology, a UK based world leader in EMV migration and smart card technologies, with the objective of reducing costs for card issuers by lengthening card lifecycles.
